Red and German army plans between Mazirbe and Gipka in May 1945
At the very end of the Second World War, both the Red Army in offensive positions and the German Army in defensive positions had plans which, given the end of the Second World War, were not implemented by either side.
At the beginning of May 1945, the 9th Battery of the 532nd Artillery Division was stationed at Mazirbe, consisting of four 105 mm guns, three 37 mm mortars, one 20 mm four-barrelled mortar, one 75 mm anti-tank gun and two mortars for illumination. In early May 1945, the Soviet Baltic Fleet planned a naval airborne operation in which the 131st Rifle Division would land between Mazirbe and Gipke. It was planned, but not carried out, but the German forces were expecting such an operation and the sector was defended by the 3rd Battalion of the 639th Infantry Regiment of the Training Division "Kurland" with four 45 mm Soviet anti-tank guns and the 3rd Battery of the Artillery Division "North" with three 76.2 mm Soviet anti-tank guns.
